Here are more photos from our family vacation to Mykonos, Greece this past July. After spending our days relaxing on the beach, most days we took a bus into Mykonos Town to enjoy delicious dinners together and to explore the town. The street layout of Mykonos' Town was intentionally built to confuse pirates, which promptly caused Mario to rename Mykonos Town "the pirate streets" while we were there last year and he once again loved exploring the town pretending to be a pirate. I am proud to say we didn't get lost in the pirate streets as much this year and were able to better navigate the confusing streets! Besides the endless small streets, Mykonos Town also has many unique shops, galleries, amazing restaurants, windmills and whitewashed houses. We absolutely love vacationing in Mykonos!
Last year we visited Mykonos for my husbands birthday; we spend his birthday on a beach every year, it helps that his birthday is just two days after the 4th of July and we all fell in love with the Greek Island of Mykonos. We enjoyed the picturesque island so much that we returned again for his birthday this year. Like the previous year, we stayed on Elia Beach, the island’s longest beach, and one of the most beautifully pristine sandy beaches in Greece. We love Elia Beach because it is relaxed, carefree and less crowded than other Mykonos' beaches. Elia Beach is the perfect choice for visiting Mykonos with a family because you can enjoy the beauty of the island without being overwhelmed by too many people. Enjoy these photos of Mario enjoying the sun, sea and sand in Mykonos.
Mario started school this past Tuesday, and I still have so much of our summer break to catch up on with you. This past summer we were quite busy as a family: we went to London on Mario's last day of school; we spent my husbands birthday in Mykonos; we visited a friends father's home in Catalonia Spain; and we rented a cabin in the Netherlands with Mario's best friends family. Yes, it truly was a busy summer, but it is nice to be back to reality and at home relaxing in Düsseldorf, where Mario says is his favorite place of all! I do know, however, that he was a little more than in awe of the Natural History Museum in London where we saw and learned about all of his favorite creatures: mini beasts, butterflies, dinosaurs, planet earth and sea creatures. We truly enjoyed exploring London this past summer and I'm looking forward to sharing all of Mario's summer adventures with you!

It is hard to believe Mario is going back to school this week, it seems as if yesterday was his last day of school - where did his summer break go? On Mario's last day of school this past year, we surprised him by taking him to the airport and flying to London to see the Lion King at London's Lyceum Theatre. Our first stop upon arriving in London was visiting Paddington Bear in Paddington Station, then we got all dressed up, Mario and I wore hand made Lion masks (Mario was Simba and I was Nala) and went to the Lyceum Theatre. Needless to say, Mario and I were a big hit at the Theatre - even the cast of the play commented on how much Swag Mario had in his Simba mask! We all enjoyed the play and Mario watched most of it with his mouth wide-open in awe, he always talks about The Lion King and how he wants to see it again. Mario now asks every time he sees a movie that he likes "Is this movie also a play with real actors? Can we go see this play?". Mario's favorite thing to play with me this summer has been putting on plays with me and pretending we are actors. What an amazing experience the Lion King was and I am happy to share Mario's pure joy with you!

Mario attends an International School in Germany with kids from over 50 Nations where he is learning to be a world citizen. At a time when I am so sad to see division and hate in our home country, I am also proud to be an American because I know America, like Mario's school, is home to citizens of the world who love one another! America is truly a great country and like Mario's Prefresh t-shirt says "U.S.A." is "Often Imitated Never Duplicated". This Spring Mario's school had International Day - my favorite celebration at his school. We learned about and celebrated all Nations, ate delicious international foods, had fun playing toss games and Mario ran around playing with his friends and discovering international candies (which included eating PoP Rocks for his first time).
“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
