For the past several years we have been chopping down our own Christmas Tree at the Christmas Tree Farm. This year, however, was different because we had a Christmas Tree Market on our block and the thought of walking down the street, having a glass of Glühwein, picking a tree and walking it home seemed too convenient and easy to pass up. So on the first sunny Sunday in December we took a family walk to our local market, enjoyed some Glühwein and thoroughly enjoyed running through the lot between the trees, before choosing our family Christmas Tree. Despite not chopping down our Christmas Tree ourselves, Mario was determined to find us the biggest and best tree on the lot. Thanks to Mario's direction we once again ended up with the perfect Christmas Tree for our family this year! When we got home, Mario helped to trim the tree and he even put the star on the top!
Here are a few more reasons why Mario loved Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Lapland (Finland): we had our own cozy cabin in the village; Mario made a snowman named Slimer the Snowman; there was a beautiful, sparkly Christmas tree in the village decorated with flags from around the world; and because we visited early in the season, Mario had a lot of space to explore the village without crowds. What a magical experience Mario had!

In addition to meeting the "Real Santa Claus" at Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Lapland (Finland), Mario went for a Sled dog ride and a Reindeer sleigh ride with one of Santa's Reindeer pulling the sleigh. I was surprised how fast the Siberian Huskies pulled the sled- I thought we would fall off a few times and held Mario oh-so-tight- but he loved it and laughed the entire time. The reindeer were quite the opposite, it was a slow, relaxed ride through the forest and we were cuddled tight under a reindeer hide. Oh, what fun it was to ride with both the Siberian Huskies and Santa's Reindeer, it goes without saying that Mario had an unforgettable experience at Santa Claus' Village

It is hard to believe it's already the New Year and Mario, like his mama, doesn't want to take down the Christmas tree; nor does he want the magic of Christmas to come to an end. This year was especially magical for Mario; we took him to Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Lapland (Finland): Rovaniemi is The Official Home of Santa Claus. Mario not only met the "Real" Santa Claus in the magical Arctic Circle, but also enjoyed playing and running in the snow, despite the fact that the temperature was -11 degrees Celsius. Mario felt Santa Claus's love and the goodwill of Christmas Spirit and declared that Santa Claus Village is his favorite place and he also said that "Santa Claus is a real man!" - even if some of his friends don't believe in Santa Claus, Mario does!

This Thanksgiving we went to Anholt Castle (one of Mario's favorite places) - we spent last Thanksgiving at Anholt Castle as well. Once again, we had a delicious Thanksgiving dinner in the Castle restaurant and spent the night in a corner room of the castle; the following day we explored the Castles' grounds. Mario's wild imagination imagined several dragons in the moat and in the woods, but he was not scared; instead, he led us on a search to find them. This year, like every year, we are thankful for each other and for living in Germany and exploring castles!
